MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR
Physician nominated for national award
SIKESTON — Dr. Stephen Welton, MD, certified medical director, was recently nominated for the American Medical Directors Association’s 2009 Medical Director of the Year. He was nominated by Melinda Taylor, FNP, on behalf of the local nursing facilities they work with, and was the only person from Missouri to be nominated for the award. An interdisciplinary panel judges nominees on their contributions and accomplishments in long-term care medicine, specifically clinical expertise, staff education, leadership and community involvement. The 2009 Medical Director of the Year will be honored during next month’s AMDA Annual Symposium, as well as featured in articles in Caring for the Ages. Along with the finalists, he or she will share best practices at an educational session at the 2010 Symposium. The AMDA is the national professional association of medical directors, attending physicians and other professionals practicing long-term care medicine committed to the continuous improvement of patient care. The organization provides education, advocacy, information and professional development for medical directors and other practitioners from various disciplines working together to deliver quality long term care.
